Are you going to proofread an ebook?

Are you a beginner?

If the answers are yes, then know these 7 things before you start proofreading your book.

1. Both are correct

Using either double quotation marks (" ") or single quotation (' ') marks, both are correct. The double one is more common while the single one is cleaner.

2. Uncle Ben or Ben uncle

Native English speakers address their relatives like 'Uncle Ben' while south Asian people address them like 'Ben uncle.' So, consider the audience.

3. Using comma for short forms

Use comma (,) before and after short forms (for example, i.e.,e.g.,etc.).

4. Quoting the same person

Use these format while quoting the same person's speech:

A. "Don't worry," Alex said. "I won't forget it."

Notice the comma after 'worry' and the period after 'said.'

B. "My dear Holmes," said I, "this is too much."

Notice the comma after I.

C. "It is simplicity itself," said he; "my eyes tell me that...."

Notice the semicolon after he.

5. It's!!??

It's means it is or it has. Just look at the context to figure it out.

It's = it is / it has
